JAKARTA - The coverage of the COVID-19 vaccination in Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua has not yet reached the threshold for establishing community immunity (herd immunity) or below 70 percent.

The Head of the Wondama Bay Health Service, Habel Pandelaki, said that although in general the vaccination coverage had not reached 70 percent, the awareness of the local community to vaccinate against COVID-19 since January has been much better than in 2021.

This can not be separated from the support of the TNI-Polri and other relevant agencies who continue to schedule mass vaccinations and encourage residents to want to be vaccinated.

"We are grateful that cross-sectoral work is going well, especially from the TNI-Polri for continuous support, starting from escorting incoming vaccines to distribution and also the implementation of vaccinations in the field," said Pandelaki in Wasior, Antara, Wednesday, May 18.

Based on data from the West Papua Provincial Health Office, vaccination coverage for the general public in Teluk Wondama Regency until May 11, 2022 was recorded at 62.4 percent for the first dose and 43.8 percent for the second dose. Meanwhile, the booster vaccine has only reached 11.6 percent.

Pandelaki said there were a number of things that hindered the acceleration of vaccination in Wondama, including the budget to support vaccination activities which were late in disbursement. As a result, vaccination activities to enter villages, especially to coastal districts and islands, have not been able to be carried out.

"But we are still optimistic that starting in June, if we keep our spirits up, even though in the city it continues to increase every day, but if in the islands we can get activities once or twice, it is likely that the first dose will rise quite high, then part of the third dose can be achieved," he said. in an optimistic tone.

Another difficulty faced by the Wondama Health Office is that many residents' ID cards have problems so that the data cannot be inputted into the application.

“There are still data entry difficulties because of problems with the NIK. Until now, there are 700 who have not been able to enter because the NIK is problematic," said Pandelaki.

Teluk Wondama Police Chief AKBP Yohanes Agustiandaru as Deputy Chair of the COVID-19 Task Force in the region said that in recent times there has been a decrease in public interest in taking the first dose of vaccination compared to the period before the Eid holiday.

However, for dose II and booster, it actually increased.

"The trend is indeed a decrease because our dose I has reached 60.08 percent, so there is still 9.2 percent to go to 70 percent. However, the trend of doses II and III continued to increase. We are still pursuing doses II and III every day," explained AKBP Agustiandaru.

In the future, he said, the COVID-19 Task Force Team together with the Health Service and other relevant agencies plan to re-vaccinate from village to village.

This activity is not only limited to urban areas such as in Wasior, Wondiboi and Rasiei Districts but also targets coastal areas and islands where vaccination coverage is still low.
