Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi said that his party had checked waterways in the South Surabaya area, starting from the channels on Jalan Ahmad Yani west side, Jalan Gayung Kebonsari (Injoko), West Kebonsari, Ketintang, Jambangan, to Karah.
"So there are several channel points that we really have to connect," said Eri Cahaadi, Wednesday, May 18.
According to him, with the connection of a number of channels, he believes that starting from Jalan Gayung Kebonsari (Injoko), Gayungsari Barat, Menanggal, to Ketintang, there will be no puddles when it rains.
He also wants the channel connectivity work for flood management to be completed in the dry season or before the rainy season arrives.
"So that, God willing, in the next rainy season, this area will no longer be flooded. So, God willing, everything will be known," said Eri.
Mayor Eri Cahyadi admitted that in 2021 the inundation problem could not be optimally handled because in addition to using the budget posted in the previous year, at that time the budget was also prioritized for handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
"By the time I was inaugurated in 2021, the budget was ready. In 2022, we will use the budget for development, such as flood resolution," he said.
According to him, efforts to deal with flooding in the South Surabaya area can be carried out in two ways, namely by directing the flow of water to the river or previously being accommodated through bozem or water reservoirs.
For this reason, said Eri Cahyadi, in addition to channel connectivity work in the South Surabaya area, the construction of Bozem Jambangan for temporary water storage is also a plan for the Surabaya City Government in 2022.
"In Aquatic (swimming pool) the soil is large which is attached to the Kebon Agung channel. So actually the Ketintang channel before being dumped into the Kebon Agung channel can be accommodated first into the Bozem, which is planned to be built behind Aquatic," he said.
Because, he said, so far the channels in the Jambangan (Anchors Park), Karah, to Ketintang areas, the upstream goes to Avur Wonorejo, Surabaya. Because the distance of the water flow from upstream to downstream is too far, in the future it will be rotated directly to the Kebon Agung channel.
"So, later the entrance to the pump house in front of the Kebonsari Petrol Pump will go directly to the river. So that later the Wonorejo channel will not accommodate too much, it will accommodate those from West Ketintang," he said.
