JAKARTA - Throughout 2021 to 2022 the drug problem in Corrections (Lapas) and Detention Centers (Rutan) in Jakarta has not been resolved. This time, three wardens at the Salemba Rutan, Central Jakarta managed to thwart the smuggling of one ounce dried marijuana packaged in tea leaf seeds.

The smuggling of dried marijuana leaves is strongly suspected of being aimed at an inmate who is still languishing in the Salemba Rutan. The smuggling was carried out using the services of an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol).

The smuggling of drugs into the Salemba detention center was also caught on CCTV surveillance cameras. From the video, an ojol driver came with a package which was immediately handed over to the prison warden.

After the item is scanned by X-Ray, the officer returns to inspect it. Upon inspection, it turned out that the package contained one ounce of dried marijuana packed with tea leaf seeds. Unfortunately, there is no sender or recipient name listed on the package box.

Head of the Regional Office (Kakanwil) of the DKI Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), Ibnu Chuldun, said that his party was committed to making prisons and detention centers free of drugs.

"The three Central Jakarta Class I Rutan employees who excel in thwarting drug smuggling deserve an award. I salute and respect all Salemba officers who did a very good job," said Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ibnu Chuldun to VOI, Wednesday, May 18.
