JAKARTA - The chairman of the PDI-P DPP Djarot Saiful Hidayat emphasized that his party has not yet thought about a coalition in the 2024 Presidential Election.

"The election is still long enough, so we choose what is most important. For the PDI-P, the most important thing is how to help the people," Djarot told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, May 18.

Djarot also emphasized that the formation of a coalition between the Golkar Party, PAN, and PPP, namely the United Indonesia Coalition, will not make PDIP rush to decide on a step in the 2024 presidential election. Moreover, the party bearing the bull symbol can carry the president without the need for a coalition.

"For the coalition, let's wait a little longer. We'd better give it to the community," he said.

"Right, the PDI-P can advance on its own, it's safer," added the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

In addition, PDIP has not yet spoken about the presidential and vice presidential candidates who will run in the 2024 presidential election. According to Djarot, all these decisions will later be taken by PDIP Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"We still haven't discussed it (the presidential and vice presidential candidates, ed). However, the mandate of the 5th PDIP Congress in Bali for the presidential election is the authority of the general chairman, the general chairman's prerogative," he explained.

As previously reported, the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, held a meeting with PAN Chair Zulkifli Hasan and PPP General Chair Suharso Monoarfa in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, Thursday, May 12.

Airlangga said the meeting was a gathering in the context of Eid al-Fitr. However, he did not deny that there had been coalition talks for the 2024 presidential election.

Meanwhile, PPP General Chair Suharso Monoarfa said they wanted to announce as early as possible the cooperation that would be established before the 2024 general election began, as well as strengthen the togetherness of these three political parties.

"We want to show or demonstrate a much earlier and more beautiful cooperation between political parties to complement each other and to strengthen each other's togetherness for the same things," said Suharso.
