DGT DIY Confiscates Assets Of 2 Tax Case Suspects, From 32 Luxury Bags To Piles Of Money In Suitcases

YOGYAKARTA - The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta confiscated the assets of two suspects in tax crimes which resulted in state revenue losses reaching Rp50 billion.

Plt. The head of the DIY DJP Regional Office, Slamet Sutantyo, said that the two taxpayers who committed a tax crime had the initials HP and the corporate suspect, PT PJM.

"The Tax Investigation Team of the DIY Regional Office of DJP on Thursday (12/5) carried out forced efforts to search and confiscate the assets of the suspect with the initials HP and the suspect in the corporation with the initials PT PJM," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

According to Slamet, the two taxpayers were suspected of submitting a notification letter (SPT) whose contents were incorrect or incomplete.

This act, said Slamet, violates Article 39 paragraph (1) letter d of Law Number 28 of 2007 concerning the Third Amendment to Law Number 6 of 1983 concerning General Provisions and Tax Procedures.

A number of assets of the suspect's cellphones were confiscated, including 32 luxury bags, 9 watches, a number of jewelry, 3 units of land and buildings, cash with an estimated value of over Rp. 10 million, as well as cash in foreign currencies.

Against the suspect in the PT PJM corporation, the confiscated assets included cash in rupiah currency with an estimated value of over Rp11 billion, some cash in foreign currencies, jewelry, and 1 unit of land and building (warehouse).

For the seized rupiah cash, he said, the exact value will still be validated with the bank regarding the authenticity of the money.

"Other goods confiscated, the estimated value will be determined through an assessment mechanism by the tax appraiser functional or other external appraiser," he said.

The search and confiscation of the assets of the two taxpayers, he said, was coordinated and supported by the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) and Brimob Polda DIY.

"Search and confiscation measures are carried out in the context of securing taxpayer assets which will later be used to recover state income losses," he said.

Prior to the search, he confirmed that the Tax Investigation Team of the DIY DJP Regional Office had obtained a permit from the Yogyakarta District Court, Bantul District Court, and Sleman District Court.

"This confiscation action is a commitment of the Directorate General of Taxes to act decisively in carrying out the rules against taxpayers who intentionally commit criminal acts in the field of taxation," said Slamet.
