SORONG - Mayor of Sorong Lambert Jitmau made a cash donation of Rp. 100 million to the organizing committee of the MOI Indigenous People's Consultative Assembly (Mubes) in Sorong City, West Papua.

"Don't look at the value of the aid, but the assistance is a form of appreciation for the indigenous tribes of the city of Sorong who have been supporting the smooth development of the region," Lambert said when making a donation, reported by Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

He said that the Sorong City Government in its empowerment program in various fields prioritized the MOI tribal community.

Almost ten years as Mayor of Sorong City, he is very concerned about the MOI Tribe, especially in the field of education to produce quality MOI human resources to become leaders in their own country.

Education is a very important aspect to advance the human resources of the MOI tribe, so the Sorong City government built a male and female student dormitory close to the Papua University campus in the study city of Manokwari.

During that time, he said, the Sorong City Government also provided tuition assistance for hundreds of indigenous MOI students who were studying outside and within the region.

"I have also built hundreds of livable houses for the MOI tribal community in Sorong City. And that is a form of empowerment of the local government towards the indigenous people of Sorong land owners," he said.

He hopes that the MOI tribal deliberations will produce decisions that favor the MOI youth today and in the future.

He also advised the MOI tribal community to maintain their customary lands and forests so that future generations of the MOI tribe can feel it.
