Police Arrest Recidivist Thieves Of Empty Houses In Bekasi

BEKASI - The Bekasi Metropolitan Police have arrested a recidivist in the case of the theft of an empty house that took place in the Spring Terrace Cluster, Perum Metland Cibitung, Wanajaya Village, Cibitung District, Bekasi Regency, when the homeowner was leaving home.

"We have arrested two perpetrators, namely DH (25) and HY (35), the other two perpetrators are still at large," said Bekasi Metro Police Chief Commissioner Gidion Arif Setyawan in Cikarang, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

He said the arrest of the recidivist gang, specialists in breaking into empty houses, was made after the victim with the initials AA made a complaint report to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Cikarang Police.

Gidion explained that the perpetrators took advantage of the Eid 2022 holiday season to launch their actions by looking for homes that were left by their owners going home.

This group of thieves broke into the victim's house on May 7, 2022 and only discovered the victim two days later, namely on May 9, 2022, when he had just returned from his hometown. .

"The theft was carried out at around 01.00 WIB, the DH perpetrator initially climbed the housing cluster wall using a ladder with two suspects who are still at large," he said.

They then looked for a house without occupants by looking at the residence whose lights were turned off. After that, the suspect DH immediately climbed the fence and poked out the window using a screwdriver.

The three perpetrators then took the victim's valuables, such as a laptop, a set of speakers, a backpack, a 32-inch LED TV, and a mobile phone.

"The estimated loss suffered by the victim from this theft case is around Rp. 10 million," said Gidion.

After taking the victim's belongings, the perpetrator fled through the same route when they were about to commit the theft. The stolen goods were then handed over to the suspect HY for sale.

The officers managed to secure the evidence of the theft along with the ladder used to climb when catching the perpetrators DH and HY.

They were charged with Article 363 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code concerning theft by Weightlifting with the threat of a maximum imprisonment of nine years.
