JAKARTA - Commission VIII of the House of Representatives regrets the deportation action taken by the Singapore Immigration against Ustaz Abdul Somad (UAS) along with his wife and children and entourage.

Member of Commission VIII DPR Achmad considered the deportation of UAS an abuse for Indonesia. Moreover, he said, Singapore did not explain the reason for the deportation.

According to Achmad, Singapore's actions against UAS were too excessive. Even though the arrival of UAS and his entourage was on vacation.

"It is impossible for UAS to come there without coordination. This is harassment for our nation," said Achmad, Tuesday, May 17.

"I personally and as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives strongly condemn the treatment of our UAS teacher. We ask Singaporeans to explain chronologically why UAS should be treated like that," he continued.

Achmad also asked the Indonesian government to demand an explanation from the Singaporean Ambassador. Because he said, UAS is a respected figure even to neighboring countries.

"UAS is a great figure and scholar, not only in Indonesia, even Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia pay high respect to him. But Singapore has treated him very unfairly," he said.

Previously, through his Instagram account on Monday, May 16, 2022, Abdul Somad admitted that he had been deported from Singapore. He also uploaded a video while in the room.

"UAS in a 1x2 meter room is like a prison at immigration, before being deported from Singapore," UAS wrote in his upload.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryopratomo, denied that Ustadz Abdul Somad was reportedly deported from Singapore.

According to him, UAS did not get a permit to enter Singapore, so he was asked to return.

"He was not deported but did not get a permit to enter Singapore, so he was asked to return," said Suryopratomo via text message, Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Suryopratomo did not explain why UAS did not get permission from Singapore. He only said the one who could explain the reason was the Singapore government.

"If the reason is right, maybe ask the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta because they have the right to explain the reason," he said.
