LAMONGAN - Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi emphasized that the spread of mouth and nail disease (FMD) in the region was under control after efforts were made to administer antibiotics, vitamins and disinfectants.

Yuhronur said other efforts that have been made are localizing cattle by closing two large animal markets and coordinating with the Lamongan Police to control the entry and exit of cattle.

"We continue to make these efforts and have proven effective in accelerating the handling and preventing the spread of the FMD virus in Lamongan," Yuhronur said as quoted by Antara, Monday, May 16.

Based on data from the Livestock Service Office of Lamongan Regency, the spread of FMD in the region was in 22 villages spread over eight sub-districts, with a total population of infected livestock as many as 149 cattle, 72 of them had recovered and 5 animals died.

"As of May 13, 2022, according to reports about 149 infected cows, although five have died, the good news is that 72 cows have recovered. We continue to take action by the Lamongan Animal Husbandry Service with three injections of treatment and cleaning their nails with formalin (disinfectant). pest killer)," he said.

He said the spread of FMD in Lamongan was relatively under control and the cows, which previously had a reduced appetite and could not stand, are now starting to improve.

"Alhamdulillah, according to the report from the handling task force team in Tikung, the cows that received injections and treatment have increased appetite and are able to stand up. This means that this FMD can be treated. The transmission is also not so fast in Lamongan. around 100 fewer got sick, and now it's 149 cows out of a population of 357 cattle in the contagion area," he said.

Meanwhile, to prevent PMK from spreading, Yuhronur said his party was working with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Unair to help prevent the spread of the virus.

"Thank you for the good intentions of FKH Unair to help deal with PMK cases in the field. We will continue to coordinate well, so that this handling can be uniform and simultaneous, both in Lamongan and elsewhere," he said.

The plan is for the Unair FKH team to be deployed to the sub-districts affected by FMD so that the cases are minimized as soon as possible and do not spread to goats and sheep.
