National Police Chief General Sigit Praises May Day Fiesta At GBK Which Took Place In Peace

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo appreciated the Indonesian workers who were able to peacefully carry out the "May Day Fiesta" at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Jakarta.

"Today, it can be shown that large numbers of workers can gather in a solemn, peaceful and joyful event. This also shows that Indonesia is a modern democracy," said Sigit in a short speech at the May Day Fiesta event at GBK Stadium, Jakarta. , Saturday May 14th.

He encouraged the workers to always carry out activities to channel their aspirations in accordance with the mandate of the constitution and laws.

In the future, Sigit continued, his party is committed to continuing to guard and protect the workers while utilizing the democratic space in order to convey aspirations for the welfare of the workers in the future so that they are in accordance with the rules of the constitution and laws.

In addition, he also appreciated the role of workers in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We express our highest appreciation and honor to all fellow workers who have fought together with other elements of the nation in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic for approximately 2 years," he said.

Sigit conveyed that the struggle was carried out by the workers through various efforts, such as following health protocols, complying with the rules for implementing restrictions on community activities (PPKM), and being directly involved in vaccination activities and distributing basic necessities for the benefit of the community.

"Alhamdulillah, today our vaccination rate has reached 408 million vaccines and Indonesia is the fifth largest country that has vaccinated its people. This is all possible thanks to the contribution of fellow workers throughout Indonesia," said Sigit.

Then, the National Police Chief wished all workers a happy birthday in the country, coinciding with International Labor Day on May 1, 2022.

"I wish a happy birthday to all my fellow workers. Keep on fighting and moving to achieve your hope, which is to create prosperous workers," said Sigit.

Previously, the President of the Labor Party Said Iqbal said the May Day Fiesta was attended by around 50 thousand people.

"Today, we are holding a May Day Fiesta. There are around 50 thousand workers (participating). Thanks to the assistance of the State Secretariat and the Indonesian Police, we can use GBK with the condition that we apply health protocols," he said.

The mass workers, he continued, came from farm laborers, fishermen, housemaids, temporary workers, urban or rural poor, housewives, online motorcycle taxis (ojol), and other working class.
