BATAM - The Bengkong Police Sector Team, Batam, Riau Islands, arrested two suspects in the theft of workshop equipment at a shophouse in the Tanjung Buntung Bengkong area. The police also seized a number of pieces of evidence worth tens of millions of rupiah.

"Two perpetrators with the initials STS (32 years) and SH (38 years) are secured at Perum Greentown, Batam," said Bengkong Police Chief AKP Bob Ferizal as reported by Antara, Saturday, May 14.

The police secured dozens of pieces of evidence, including one aluminum welding transformer, two iron welding transformers, four battery drills, one concrete drill, two cutting grinders, one hair dryer/heater. Also, one Toyota Yaris car, numbered BP 1464 VE, and one green wheel lock were also secured.

"The modus operandi is that the perpetrator has been stalking the victim's shop. As soon as there was a gap, the perpetrator entered the victim's shop by prying open the shop door and taking the victim's belongings to sell," said Ferizal.

Ferizal explained that the incident began when the victim's neighbor saw the two perpetrators transporting goods out of the victim's shop, initials H. Then he immediately contacted the victim to inform him of the incident.

“The victim who lives in front of the shophouse immediately rushed out of the house and saw the perpetrator had fled in a car. The victim had chased the perpetrator's car to the road and marked the perpetrator's car," said Ferizal.

After not being able to catch the perpetrator, the victim returned to the shophouse where she worked and saw that the door to the victim's shop was open and the items in the shophouse had disappeared. After that he immediately reported to the police.

"The total loss reported by the victim to us is IDR 50 million," he said.

After receiving the report, the police immediately moved and managed to arrest the perpetrator at his home in the Bengkong area.

"For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 363 Paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code with a threat of 9 years in prison," said Ferizal.
