Health Office Has Not Found Cases Of Acute Hepatitis In East Java

SURABAYA - Head of the East Java Health Office, dr. Erwin Astha Triono stated that until now his party had not found any cases of acute hepatitis with no known cause.

"Until today, no cases of mysterious acute hepatitis have been found in children under the age of 16," he said in Surabaya, East Java, as reported by Antara, Friday, May 13.

Erwin said the district/city Health Office had sent all data and samples of patients who had symptoms leading to acute hepatitis.

"We are currently waiting for further laboratory results. Later, if there are further laboratory results, the Ministry of Health will provide information first," he said.

In addition, samples of suspected cases of acute hepatitis that caused a seven-year-old child to die in Tulungagung have also been sent by the East Java Health Office to the Ministry of Health.

"In the field, only one was recorded from Tulungagung, that's what the laboratory examination was doing," he said.

Meanwhile, the case that happened to three patients in Sidoarjo Regency, Erwin explained that it was a case of hepatitis in adults, not children under 16 years of age that became the focus of WHO.

"This means that services are still provided at the local hospital but are not associated with acute hepatitis, which is in quotes or is an emphasis on children under 16 years old," he said.

Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially published the outbreak of acute hepatitis on April 15, 2022.

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, asked the public not to panic, but to remain alert to cases of acute hepatitis with severe symptoms in children whose cause is unknown.

This step is a follow-up to the Circular Letter of the Ministry of Health No. HK.02.02/C/2515/2022 concerning Precautions for Finding Cases of Acute Hepatitis of Unknown Aetiology, dated April 27, 2022.
