Central Lombok DPRD Promises Raperda On Protection Of The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities

NTB - The establishment of a Draft Regional Regulation (raperda) initiated by the DPRD of Central Lombok Regency will prioritize the protection of disability rights.

"I will oversee it so that it becomes a priority," said Head of the Regional Regulations Formation Agency (BAPEMPERDA) of the Central Lombok DPRD, Adi Bagus Karya Putra, when receiving NGOs and disability representatives demanding the formation of a Disability Perda, at the local DPRD office, Friday 13 May.

With the existence of Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities, far before, an indirect order was given to pay attention to people with disabilities, because everyone has the same rights as Indonesian citizens.

"What is planned will be a reference for the DPRD in drafting an initiative Raperda," he said, as reported by Antara.

He admitted that the local government has not been maximal in providing services to the community, especially people with disabilities, so that the existence of this regulation will help people with disabilities in Central Lombok.

"In the discussion of the regional regulation, we will involve people with disabilities, so that what is expected can be realized," he said.

Head of the Social Service of Central Lombok Regency, Muliardi Yunus, said that the local government fully supports the plan to form a draft regional regulation on disability so that efforts will be made to make it happen. "We from the Department fully support the formation of the regulation," he added.

Several programs that have been implemented by local governments for persons with disabilities are in the form of social assistance, empowerment and the provision of musical instrument assistance to persons with disabilities.

"The number of people with disabilities in Central Lombok who have entered the data is 384 people," he said.

Previously, Head of Facts RI Muhanan said that the number of people with disabilities nationally reached 17 million and at the West Nusa Tenggara Province level it reached 17,000 so that the regulation is very important to help people with disabilities.
