CIANJUR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur, West Java, appealed to fishermen not to go to sea for the next week due to extreme weather based on weather forecasts from the BMKG with alert status.

Secretary of BPBD Cianjur, Rudi Wibowo in Cianjur, Friday, May 13, said information obtained from BMKG that most of Cianjur area will be rained with strong winds, especially on the south coast, so it can endanger the safety of fishermen.

"We urge all residents who live in disaster-prone areas from north to south of Cianjur, especially fishermen, to be careful when going to sea, especially during the day because strong winds are expected to occur," he said, quoted by Antara.

For fishermen who are forced to go to sea, he said, they are asked to avoid leaving during the day and to be observant in reading the situation because so far, fishermen are smarter to read natural signs, including the right weather to go to sea or avoid not going to sea.

"Don't push yourself when the weather is extreme because of the risk of life, but fishermen in Cianjur are more observant because they are used to reading natural signs when to go to sea or not," he said.

However, to prevent unwanted things, his party has alerted hundreds of Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) to monitor, appeal and take quick action when a marine accident occurs in coordination with local authorities.

"We also urge tourists who vacation on the southern coast of Cianjur, not to swim or play near the beach because high waves can come at any time," he said.

His party noted that during the long holiday, there were no reports of tourists being carried away by the waves or fishermen who had drowned.
