JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy conducted a series of promotions for a variety of domestic creative products to the world stage. The promotion was held in the world forum of the 1st Tourism Working Group 2022.

The forum was held at the Sudamala Resort, Labuan Bajo, NTT, last Tuesday 10 May 2022. Minister Sandiaga Uno, who played a direct role in the promotion, wore Mandar Sureq Marasa silk woven clothes.

The woven fabric is known to have come from Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. Not only Sandiaga Uno who wore the cloth, the top leaders of the Tourism Working Group also promoted it by wearing it.

"The Sureq Marasa Silk Weaving is made using a hand-made process and woven with traditional tools, all of which are done by human labor, so it has a high selling value," said the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy in his written statement, Thursday, May 12.

Sureq Marasa fabric consists of a combination of 3 sureq. The first is Kalumpang, Sambuq Mamasa, and Saqbe Mandar.

The purpose of Sureq Marasa was made as an effort to preserve and promote the three superior fabrics of West Sulawesi which are the heritage of their ancestors.

In his statement, Sandiaga said that Sureq Marasa cloth is one of the creative economy products that can improve the community's economy, especially craftsmen, which are mostly made by women from the coastal areas of West Sulawesi.
