After Lebaran, Three New Cases Of COVID-19 Appear In Batam

TANJUNGPINANG - The COVID-19 Task Force (Satgas) noted that there were three new cases of COVID-19 in Batam after Lebaran 2022, bringing the total number of active cases in the industrial city to five people.

Spokesman for the Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Dr. Tjetjep Yudiana, in Tanjungpinang City, Wednesday, May 11, said the number of active COVID-19 cases in Riau Islands was only seven people, consisting of five people in Batam and two others in Tanjungpinang.

"Besides Batam, there have been no additional new cases of COVID-19 in regencies and cities in Riau Islands," said the former Head of the Riau Islands Health Office, quoted by Antara.

He explained that five districts in Riau Islands had zero active cases of COVID-19. The districts are Anambas, Lingga, Natuna, Karimun and Bintan Islands.

Bintan has zero active cases of COVID-19 starting today after two patients were declared cured. A day ago, Karimun had zero active cases of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Anambas has had no active COVID-19 cases for more than three weeks. And Lingga for more than a week with no active cases.

All regencies and cities in Riau Islands are designated as Yellow Zones or low risk of transmission.

"Anambas will soon be designated a Green Zone if there are no active cases of COVID-19," he said. Head of the Riau Islands Health Office, Muhamad Bisri, said that the decline in active cases of COVID-19 was due to the general adoption of health protocols and healthy lifestyles during the pandemic.

"Don't be ashamed to wear a mask. Markers protect us from the attack of this deadly virus," he urged.

According to him, the COVID-19 vaccination was successful in controlling the transmission of the virus because the communal immunity of the Riau Islands community reached more than 90 percent based on the results of the Ministry of Health's research.

"The COVID-19 vaccination program is intensively carried out, running smoothly. More than 40 percent or 500 thousand people of the vaccination target have been injected with booster vaccines," said Muhamad Bisri.
