Police Check All Livestock Transport Vehicles Entering Gresik, Prevent Mouth And Nail Diseases

GRESIK - The police are blocking cattle transporting trucks that want to enter the Gresik area in East Java. The partition to anticipate the spread of mouth and nail disease (PMK) is carried out in border areas.

"This step is an instruction from the National Police Chief and the East Java Police Chief. The target is at the border area. We check trucks or vehicles that pass and load livestock," said Gresik Police Chief, AKBP Mochamad Nur Azis, in Gresik, Wednesday, May 11.

He said the sealing team had been formed on Tuesday evening, May 10, and immediately operated on the borders of Gresik with Surabaya, Lamongan with Gresik, and Mojokerto Regency with Sidoarjo Regency.

"We still have a number of personnel on standby at border locations to monitor the flow of vehicles. Because this PMK outbreak has received more attention because its spread is very fast," he said.

He said that in the blockade operation they collaborated with related agencies, including the Agriculture Service and the Trade Service.

Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture had designated Gresik Regency as an area with the status of an Extraordinary Event (KLB) along with Sidoarjo, Mojokerto and Lamongan in the FMD outbreak.

Based on the records of the local Agriculture Service, the total number of animals affected by the FMD outbreak reached 810 cattle, with 15 of them dead, out of the total population of cattle in the pens identified as 959 cows.

Hundreds of cattle affected by the epidemic were detected in seven sub-districts, namely Wringinanom, Driyorejo, Kedamean, Menganti, Benjeng, Balongpanggang, and Cerme.
