400 People Affected By Palu River Flood, City Government Builds Public Kitchen

PALU - The Palu River in Central Sulawesi overflowed due to high rainfall accompanied by flooding from Sigi Regency. As a result, many houses on the banks of the river were flooded with various heights.

The Palu City Government moved to build evacuation posts and public kitchens for affected residents on Tuesday 10 May. "We have placed a public kitchen to serve the logistical needs of the affected residents," said Head of the Palu City Social Service Romy Sandi Agung who was contacted in Palu, citing Antara, Tuesday, May 10. Baru, Ujuna Village, West Palu Sub-district and East Besusu Village, East Palu District. "Our report received 400 residents of Baru Village who were affected. East Besusu Village 20 families and Ujuna Village 12 families were affected," he said.

From the flood incident since this morning, a number of residents were forced to evacuate because the water level in their homes was knee-deep in adults.

In the public kitchen, he said, the Social Service involved the Disaster Preparedness Team (Tagana), while at the flood control post, the Palu City Government involved a joint team coordinated by the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). "We are preparing dinner menus for flood-affected residents. We have prepared 400 packs of food for residents, the medical team is also ready at the integrated post," said Romy. "Reportedly, from this incident no casualties," he said.
