'Unemployed' For One Year, Anies Baswedan Must Be Able To Maintain His Electability If He Doesn't Want To Dim Ahead Of His Candidacy

JAKARTA - Anies Baswedan's term as Governor of DKI Jakarta will end in October 2022. This is because all regional head elections will be held simultaneously in the 2024 General Election.

This means that Anies does not have an important position in the government or is unemployed. So, what does Anies need to do while waiting for the registration period for the 2024 presidential election if he wants to run as a presidential candidate?

A political observer at Al Azhar Indonesia University, Ujang Komarudin, said that Anies' vacancy for a year before the presidential election was a tough challenge for the governor of DKI Jakarta.

The reason is, Anies must be able to prove that he can exist from October 2022 until the registration of the presidential and vice presidential candidates in September 2023.

"This means that one year Anies is in a period of vacancy or unemployment. In politics, when it is empty it will be dim," said Ujang to VOI, Tuesday, May 10.

However, the executive director of the Indonesia Political Review (IPR) assessed that it all depends on whether Anies has another position or if there is a momentum created so that he is able to maintain his electability.

"So it depends on Anies himself in the next year. If he can't create a stage and maintain his electability, he will lose his candidacy momentum," he said.

Meanwhile, political observer from Al Azhar University Indonesia Andriadi Achmad assesses that there is no chance for Anies Baswedan in the near future to advance to the second term of Governor of DKI. This is because it is time for Anies to run for state leadership.

"Of course it is too expensive for Anies Baswedan to run as Governor of DKI 2024, because he has a very good chance to become a presidential candidate," Andriadi told VOI, Tuesday, May 10.

Therefore, according to the executive director of the Nusantara Institute PolCom SRC, Anies will go on a political trip throughout Indonesia to explore himself as a presidential candidate in 2024.

"Therefore, after the end of the DKI Governor's term of office, in my opinion, Anies Baswedan will carry out guerrilla preparations for the 2024 presidential election. Both by consolidating the volunteer teams that have been formed throughout Indonesia and exploring political parties that will support them," concluded Andriadi.
