BADUNG - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin reminded governors to be consistent in implementing bureaucratic reform and improving the management of the state civil apparatus (ASN) in order to realize quality public services and public welfare.

"About 77 percent of ASN are in regional agencies. I hope that all regions in Indonesia will continue to implement meritocracy," said the Vice President when opening the National Working Meeting of the Association of Indonesian Provincial Governments (APPSI) in Kuta, Badung, Monday, May 9.

In addition to implementing a system that provides opportunities for leadership based on ability, Ma'ruf also asked all local governments to commit to preventing the practice of corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN) in accordance with governance regulations.

"This includes preventing the practice of buying and selling positions which is still common," he said.

In addition, he also encourages the implementation of Public Service Malls (MPP) at the district and city levels, because it is a strategic step in improving public services.

Regarding the theme of the APPSI National Work Meeting, the Vice President added, sustainable development is essentially an effort to create prosperity for the current generation without burdening future generations.

"Therefore, the orientation of future development is to encourage environmentally friendly economic activities and involve the participation of all citizens," he explained.

In accordance with the constitutional mandate, he said regional governments are given the authority to carry out the widest possible autonomy as an effort to accelerate development and improve public services for the welfare of the community in a sustainable manner.

"The local government should be able to take policies that are closer to the aspirations of the people," he said.

He also said that all governors and local government officials had to change the paradigm from simply organizing to serving, meeting the needs of the people, including building interactions with various stakeholders.

"I hope this Rakernas can produce the best work program for APPSI, to support the success of regional governments and regional autonomy, in order to realize Indonesia's development that is oriented towards prosperity, justice, and sustainability," said the Vice President.

Meanwhile, General Chairperson of APPSI Anies Baswedan said the 2022 APPSI National Work Meeting, which took place in Bali until Wednesday (11/5), carried the theme "Improving the Role of Provincial Governments for Sustainable Development".

"This National Working Meeting will collect the problems that have been faced by the provincial government, then make it a recommendation to be submitted to the central government," said the Governor of DKI Jakarta.

A number of topics that will be discussed in the APPSI National Work Meeting include the prospects for the role of the State Civil Apparatus Commission (KASN) in optimizing the implementation of the merit system in the regional government bureaucracy, exploring opportunities for the formation of New Autonomous Regions (DOB), as well as the effectiveness of mineral and coal mining management based on Law No. -Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining.
