SOLO - The city of Solo is holding a car free day (CFD) starting this weekend following various easing of community activities after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This week it starts. Let the CFD be arranged by the Transportation Service first," said Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Solo as reported by Antara, Monday, May 9.

He said some activities that can be done include sports and culinary. As for organizing the event, he said, it would be arranged in the near future.

"It will be arranged in a different circular, later let Dishub arrange it," he said.

Gibran ensured that the vehicle-free day will be held at the same location, namely along Jalan Slamet Riyadi starting from the Gendengan intersection to Gladak.

Related to this, the Head of the Surakarta City Transportation Service, Hari Prihatno, said that he would soon hold a meeting to prepare for the reopening of the motorized-free day.

Hari said that several agencies would be involved in the coordination meeting, including the Trade Service, Satpol PP, and the Surakarta Police Satlantas.

"For the preparation, including the matter of parking arrangements, transitioning the BST (Batik Solo Trans) lane, this is important," he said.

Regarding the rules that will be applied to the community while in the activity, he said, namely the application of health protocols.

"The important thing is that wearing a mask is mandatory. (Regarding capacity) because as a consequence we dare to reopen CFD, there is no capacity limitation," he said.
