Luhut Brings Good News, COVID-19 Hospital Occupancy Is Currently Only 2 Percent

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan explained that the COVID-19 pandemic is currently starting to improve. Luhut revealed that the national hospitalization rate for COVID-19 patients continued to fall to 97 percent.

"The hospital bed occupancy rate (COVID-19 referral) is also very low, only 2 percent of the total available beds," Luhut said in a virtual press conference, Monday, May 9.

In addition, COVID-19 deaths have also decreased by 98 percent from the peak of cases of the Omicron variant. Then, the percentage of positive cases or the positivity rate is below 0.7 percent.

Then, nationally, daily cases of COVID-19 for 25 consecutive days were below 1000 and consecutive days of daily cases were below 500.

"Based on the data above, we believe that the condition of the Omicron variant in Indonesia during the Eid holiday is still under control," said Luhut.

All provinces in Java and Bali to date have experienced a decrease in cases reaching 99 percent compared to the peak of Omicron cases some time ago.

Then, the effective reproduction rate (Rt) of COVID-19 cases outside Java-Bali also decreased. However, the Rt figure on Sumatra Island is still at number 1. Meanwhile, the Rt figure on Papua Island is 0.99, Maluku is 0.97, Kalimantan is 0.99, Nusa Tenggara is 0.99, and Sulawesi is 0.98.

"Along with the control of COVID-19 cases, the PPKM relaxation measures will continue to be carried out gradually, gradually and continuously," he added.
