MAKASSAR - The South Sulawesi Regional Police (Sulsel) made sure to follow up on the report regarding a UMI Makassar lecturer with the initials MAW who was allegedly beaten during a chaotic demonstration. MAW was secured in the midst of chaos on Jalan Urip Sumoharjo, Makassar.

"It was checked at Propam, just received the report," said when confirmed by VOI , Monday, October 12.

Ibrahim explained that when the riots occurred, the police had urged the public through loudspeakers to stay away from the location.

"We are concerned about this incident. What needs to be known is that the situation at that time was a demonstration that ended in anarchism and lasted until night, so the security procedure carried out was to disperse the masses, preceded by appealing through a sound system with a range of about two kilometers, "said Ibrahim.

Furthermore, according to Ibrahim, the police sprayed water cannons and shot tear gas because the situation was already chaotic.

Meanwhile, MAW admitted that they did not hear instructions when residents were asked to stay away from the chaos locations.

"I did not hear that, even if I prepared it, it is true, but it cannot be like that, this is not security, this is not an arrest, even if it is an arrest, it is like that," he said separately to VOI .

He hopes that reports on both criminal and ethical aspects will be followed up immediately. The UMI lecturer at the Law Faculty has provided information that can be used as a basis for identifying the perpetrators who are suspected of carrying out the beatings.

"As if justifying this blind act, any situation should be secured, not blind actions that have the potential to cause death," he said.
