BABEL - Tidal waves have the potential to occur throughout the coast of the Pangkalpinang region in Bangka Belitung (Babel). Basarnas asked all beach visitors to be aware of it.

This was conveyed by the Head of the local Class B Basarnas, Fazzli, in response to a beach visitor who died when he was swept away by the waves on the beach of Serangan Belinyu Bangka.

"I remind all beach visitors who want to bathe at tourist beaches to be aware of tidal waves," Fazzli said in a statement, quoted from Antara, Friday, May 6.

He said that the waves of the beach sea water can change at any time without being known beforehand so that a level of vigilance is needed when bathing on the beach.

"Try not to force a bath on the beach if the wave conditions are high because the current is alternating due to the waves on the beach which tend to be strong," he explained.

In an effort to provide safety services for beach visitors during the Eid holiday, he said, his party has prepared a KN SAR Karna unit which can be used at any time to provide assistance in the event of a disaster in the waters.

"In addition to KN SAR Karna and a rescue team, we have also prepared Rescue Boat 201, an inflatable boat equipped with a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) steering wheel and an inflatable boat," he said.

According to him, the rescue team is prepared to provide mobile services at a number of tourist objects visited by the public or tourists as well as improve coordination with related teams on the beach.
