SERANG - The escape of the bus driver Akap Ceria after the deadly accident in North Musi Rawas on Friday, April 29, ended at the Serang City Police. AKBP Maruli Hutapea as Serang City Police Chief said that the arrest was made after his party coordinated with the North Musi Rawas (Muratara) Police.

"We have arrested the Ceria bus driver in Serang City after his 6-day flight from North Musi Rawas," explained Maruli Hutapea, in a written statement, Thursday, May 5, evening.

Maruli explained, last Friday, April 29, there was an accident involving the Family Raya Ceria bus with police number (nopol) BH 7795 FU with a Suzuki Carry BG 8581 PD pick-up car. As a result, 4 out of 5 people in the pick-up car including the driver, DN (25), died.

"Driver WJ (35) fled immediately after the fatal accident and was declared a fugitive by the North Musi Rawas Police (Muratara)," explained Maruli.

The suspect's whereabouts, he continued, were identified by the Serang City Police after coordination was carried out with the Muratara Police.

"There is a request from the Muratara Police to identify the suspect's whereabouts in Serang City, because it is known that the suspect's wife lives in Perum Bumi Agung," he said.

After receiving complete information, the Serang Police then conducted an investigation in the field and matched the characteristics of the suspect in the housing.

"Not in vain, today the Serang City Police managed to arrest the suspect after confirming his position in the housing," Hutapea explained.

The suspect WJ himself admitted that he was afraid of being held accountable for the deadly incident, so he chose to run away.

"The suspect was afraid of being mobbed (beaten) and imprisoned, so he immediately fled to Serang City," said Hutapea.

After being questioned at the Serang Police, the suspect was immediately picked up by Muratara Police personnel.

"We have communicated with the Muratara Police and investigators will pick up the suspect from the Serang City Police. However, to complete the official report of the delegation, Serang Police investigators conducted a preliminary examination and arrested the suspect under Article 310 paragraph (4) of Law no. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, namely an accident that results in the death of another person with a penalty of 6 years in prison,” concluded Hutapea.

Previously, an accident occurred between a Suzuki Carry pick-up car and an AKAP Family Raya bus in Jalinsum Muratara, Rantau Jaya Village, Karang Jaya District, North Musi Rawas Regency (Muratara), South Sumatra Province (Sumsel), Friday, April 29.
