JAKARTA - West Java NasDem DPW chairman Saan Mustopa claimed the majority of NasDem DPW agreed to propose the name of DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate (candidate) in 2024 to NasDem Party Chairman Surya Paloh.

The recommendation is planned to be submitted at the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the NasDem Party on 15-17 a 2022 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

"Of the many DPD, that's the majority, generally asking Pak Anies to be considered for proposals in the National Working Meeting to the general chairman (Surya Paloh)," Saan told reporters, Wednesday, May 4.

NasDem cadres, he continued, will fight for Anies Baswedan's name as a presidential candidate. However, Saan said they would obey Surya Paloh's decision.

"Whoever the general chairman decides regarding the presidential candidate, of course we will comply and we will fight for it," said Saan.

"But most of them asked to propose Mr. Anies," he added.

Previously, a number of NasDem DPWs had proposed names of presidential candidates to be submitted during the National Working Meeting. One of them is the DPW NasDem DIY which proposed three names, namely the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, and the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa.

"We propose three names based on the results of an internal survey. Anies, Ganjar and Andika are the top figures based on the survey that the people of Yogyakarta want," said Subardi, Chair of the DPW NasDem DIY, in a written statement, Wednesday, May 4.

Subardi said the internal survey took into account the level of electability and the effect of vote acquisition for the NasDem Party in Yogyakarta.

Apart from being survey-based, the three are also suggestions from DPW NasDem cadres throughout DIY. "So this is part of democracy in NasDem. The proposal will be brought to the National Working Meeting. Of course, the General Chairperson has special considerations," he said.

NasDem Jogja also hopes that the coalition axis built by the DPP includes the three names. However, Subardi said, the entire NasDem structure in Yogyakarta would be ready to win whoever the candidate decided by their general chairman, Surya Paloh.

"The three of them could be bargaining power to build a coalition for 2024. But once again, the party machines throughout DIY will support whoever NasDem chooses," explained Subardi.
