Tourists Fill Nusa Penida Bali, 4 Boats Found By Police Transporting Passengers Over Capacity

DENPASAR - The Denpasar, Bali Police Team will take firm action against the captain who deliberately carried passengers exceeding the capacity in Sanur to Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali.

Head of Denpasar Polresta Polairud Police Commissioner AA Gede Rai Darmayasa said strict action was given to the management and captain of the ship who did not comply with safety rules. Supervision is tightened during this Eid holiday.

"Passenger safety is our priority and priority so that tourists can feel comfortable and safe and prevent dangerous things from happening while crossing," said Darmayasa at the Sanur pier, Denpasar, Bali, Wednesday, May 4.

The police are also keeping an eye on tourists at the Sanur pier and Jalan Pantai Bangsal, South Denpasar. Because in the Eid holidays, domestic tourists and foreign tourists meet Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.

In monitoring, the Satpolairud officers collaborated with the Syahbandar officers in the Sanur area to check.

These personnel immediately boarded the ship and counted the number of passengers. Also checked for completeness of safety equipment and shipworthiness.

"There were about seven ships that were examined by joint officers and there were four ships that were reprimanded for carrying excessive passengers or over capacity, and asked to lower passengers. After giving a firm warning, the ship's passengers were finally transferred to another ship to Nusa Penida," he said.

Meanwhile, from Denpasar City Government data, it was recorded that from April 25 to May 2 2022, the average passenger to and from Sanur Port reached more than 2 thousand people per day.

The Denpasar City Government, through the COVID-19 Task Force, oversees the health protocols for tourists.

"Since this morning, the members of the Task Force have been combing the departure and arrival areas of ships that will load or unload passengers, to the destinations of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan," said Denpasar City Transportation Agency (Dishub) Head I Ketut Sriawan, Tuesday, May 3.
