Watching 19 TV Stations For The Ramadan Program, MUI Finds Indications Of Violations Such As Bodyshaming And Verbal Violence

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has again monitored the second phase of the Ramadan program for the period 13-23 April and still found indications of violations with the same content, namely bodyshaming/harassment, indications of sensuality, and verbal violence.

"Indications of violations are found in reality shows and comedy programs that are broadcast live," said Chairman of the MUI Infokom Commission Mabroer in a written statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, May 1.

Mabroer said the second phase of monitoring included 19 broadcast TVs. In the second phase, monitoring is related to the consistency and commitment of broadcasters to improve a number of findings that have indications of violations that were recorded in the first phase from 3-12 April.

Shows that still contain indications of these violations include the program Ini Sahur Lagi Net TV, Janda Kembang Net Tv, Trans7 Seger Sahur, Trans7 Opening Past, TranTv's Blessing Ramadan, and AnTV Pesbukers Sahur.

Mabroer made a number of recommendations. First, asking KPI to give strict sanctions to TV stations that still show indications of violations according to the severity of the mistakes made.

Regarding broadcasting institutions, Mabroer conveyed a number of recommendations, including Ramadan programs such as comedy, reality shows, and variety shows which often use communication methods and impromptu actions should not be live.

"Therefore, it is recommended to become a recording program with quality control before broadcasting," he said.

Second, recommend that broadcasters make a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative evaluation of all programs broadcast in the month of Ramadan in order to avoid similar violations in the years to come.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Infokom Commission, Gun Gun Heryanto, revealed that the MUI had three objectives in monitoring Ramadan broadcasts on television.

First, he said, to give appreciation, especially to broadcasters who have dedicated broadcast programs to the people.

Second, to provide an evaluation of broadcasting institutions. According to him, this evaluation is very important because it involves public interest and public frequency. "So a comprehensive evaluation is needed in that context," he explained.

Third, to provide recommendations on what has been collected, both data and sources that will be used as recommendations for the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and broadcasting institutions.
