Police Urge The Public, Road Bodies Should Not Be Used As Vehicle Parking Areas

JAKARTA - The Regional Police (Polda) of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) Province reminded all levels of society and parking attendants not to use the road as a location for parking motorized vehicles.

"It is not permissible to park motorized vehicles, either motorbikes or cars, on the road, especially on the sidewalks because there is a risk of causing traffic accidents and endangering other passing motorists," said Traffic Director (Dirlantas) of the Central Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol. Kingkin Winisuda, Friday, April 29.

He conveyed this, because there are still many people, especially parking attendants, who use roads and sidewalks as parking lots. Even though this act violates the law because it uses roads and sidewalks that are not in accordance with their designation.

He stated that parking attendants who use roads and sidewalks as parking locations are usually unofficial parking attendants who were not recruited by the local government or illegal parking attendants.

"If the official parking attendant is sure the parking location is at parking points that have been determined by the regional government. Therefore, we are coordinating with the local government through the transportation service to bring order to the illegal parking attendants," he said.

As for people who park their vehicles, especially cars on roads and sidewalks, they will be dealt with in stages, starting from education, warnings to taking action.

"On roads there are usually signs prohibiting parking vehicles. We will take action for car owners who park on the road, namely, we transport their vehicles, tows and ticketing tickets. Park their vehicles at parking points that have been determined by the regional government," he said.

In addition, Kingkin appealed to the public to always prioritize driving safety when traveling, especially during Eid.

It is like wearing a helmet for motorcyclists and not going against the flow because this act not only endangers the riders themselves but also endangers other motorists who pass by.
