PAN Legislator: PDSI A Threat To IDI

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the DPR from the PAN faction, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, responded to the formation of the All-Indonesian Doctors Association (PDSI) which was declared yesterday, Wednesday, April 27.

He admitted that he was surprised by the declaration. Moreover, PDSI was formed by special staff of the former Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto, Brigadier General (Purn) dr. Jajang Edi Priyanto. "To be honest, I was surprised by the existence of this PDSI, because the special staff of Dr. Terawan that I heard initiated," said Saleh, Thursday, April 28. The member of the Health Commission also warned that the formation of the PDSI should not overlap the authority and functions of the organization with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI). Although, said Saleh, it is actually the right of every citizen to associate and assemble.

The chairman of the PAN faction then highlighted the existence of IDI which has been mandated in Law No. 29 of 2004 concerning Medical Practice. The law stipulates that there is only one medical professional organization, namely IDI.

"In the Medical Practice Law, it is stated that there is only one medical professional organization, namely IDI. And it has been judicially reviewed, but again at that time the Constitutional Court mandated that there be only one medical organization," Saleh explained. The reason, continued Saleh, is that there are several specific things that must be done by the medical professional organization singly, including the standardization of the competence of doctors and medical practice, as well as ethics and the implementation of health services to the community.

"There, there are a number of specific things that must be done singly, which includes the standardization of doctor's competence and standardization of medical practice, as well as regulating ethics and the implementation of health services to the community," Saleh said.

Therefore, the chairman of the PAN DPP said that PDSI was still beyond the reach of IDI's functions. "That's why PDSI must be seen in the future," Saleh continued.

Apart from that, Saleh also highlighted the requirements for PDSI membership which cannot be dualism with similar organizations, which are none other than IDI. According to him, it will be a threat to IDI.

"The issue of PDSI members having to leave similar professional organizations. In my opinion, this is a threat to IDI. Because PDSI really wants to take another path and front itself," he concluded.
