JAKARTA - The General Elections Commission (KPU) estimates that the budget for the 2022 election stage will reach Rp. 8 trillion. The cost was taken from the budget for the 2024 General Election proposed by the KPU amounting to Rp. 76 trillion.

"This is from a budget of Rp. 76 trillion, yes, but we will do more efficiency. The assumption is, from Rp. 76 trillion, to Rp. 8 trillion for the needs of 2022," KPU member Yulianto Sudrajat told reporters in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 26.

The budget will be used for the stages of registering political parties in August, verifying the political parties participating in the election, and establishing an ad hoc body.

However, Yulianto emphasized that the nominal has not yet received approval from the DPR and his party will still carry out budget efficiency.

Currently, the KPU is focusing on discussing and ratifying the stages of the election. After completing the discussion of the stages, then his party will discuss the budget needs for the 2024 Election.

"In a sense, the important thing is that the stages are completed first. That is the basis for the outgoing budget. That's the order. No budget first," he quoted Antara.

After the election stages have been completed through the discussion period and have been decided, then the KPU will talk in more detail about the required budget.

Until now, Yulianto revealed that his party had prepared all the needs to carry out discussions, even discussing budget efficiency measures.

"We have continuously reviewed the budget. How much budget can we be efficient at? We reduce building repairs, land purchases in several districts, cities, provinces which we have allocated, so we will collaborate with the local government," he said.

He targets that, after Lebaran, the KPU together with other stakeholders will have completed the discussion on the stages of the election and can discuss the budget with a focus.

"The target for this stage is after Eid, and we are ready to carry out discussions. In general, we have prepared construction," he said.
