Police Arrest 2 Perpetrators Of Cat Abuse With Firecrackers In Sumbawa

SUMBAWA - The Sumbawa Police Satreskrim Team, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police arrested two young men with the initials AL (19) and AR (28), for allegedly molesting a cat using firecrackers.

"The two perpetrators, residents of Plampang sub-district, are still in the process of being investigated," said Sumbawa Police Chief AKBP Esty Setyo Nugroho, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 21.

The video of cat abuse went viral, after it spread on social media (medsos) regarding allegations of pet abuse. The perpetrators were arrested after a complaint from animal lover Dr. Dwi Yudarini (35) who complained about animal abuse spread through social media.

"The animal is a cat that is inserted by firecrackers into its rectum/anus, then it is lit, so the firecracker explodes. As a result, the animal's anus was injured," he said.

The reported initials AL (19) is the owner of the cat as well as the perpetrator who inserted the firecracker into the cat's anus. Then the second, AR (28) is the one who makes the video and then uploads it on WhatsApp status.

"The background of the deviant behavior of the two individuals was because AR was annoyed with his pet cat, because he often urinated or defecated in the house. Meanwhile, brother AR was asked by brother AR to video his actions," he said.

The two of them are currently in the process of being investigated with the alleged article 302 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code. In paragraph 1, it is threatened with imprisonment for a maximum of 3 months or a fine of a maximum of Rp.4,500, for committing light abuse of animals.

"Then in paragraph 2, if the act results in illness for more than a week or disability, serious injury or even death, then it is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 9 months or a maximum fine of Rp.
