JAKARTA - A total of 9,915 joint TNI-Polri officers were deployed to guard student and labor demonstrations in the National Palace or Monas area and the Indonesian Parliament today.

This was said by the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol. Endra Zulpan when met in the Monas area.

"For security forces, the total is 9,915, consisting of the Police force and also assisted by elements of the TNI, in this case the Jaya Military Command as many as 1,440 personnel. The rest are members of the Police and there are several from the Satpol PP who are helping us," said Zulpan, Thursday, 21 April.

Meanwhile, Zulpan estimates that today's demonstration will number between 800 and 1,200 people. This estimate is calculated based on seven notices of action received by Polda Metro Jaya.

"We will see again in the field. So, to anticipate, Polda Metro Jaya involves more troops to ensure security. Not only people who hold demonstrations, but also people who are around the demonstration," said Zulpan.

During today's action, Polda Metro Jaya will filter the participants in the action. This filtering aims to detect crowds and prevent intruders from joining the elements of the marchers.

"So, we hope that with the filtering, no intruders are included in the group. Then through this filtering, we will also find out which groups have given notification to the police," said Zulpan.

For information, the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) and the Indonesian Student Alliance (AMI) plan to hold a demonstration today.

Polda Metro Jaya will implement a traffic scheme during student demonstrations in the State Palace and DPR/MPR areas. Under the scheme, several roads were closed.
