Supporting The Struggle As Well As Paying Respect, This Train In Japan Is Painted In The Colors Of The Ukrainian Flag

JAKARTA - Various kinds of support for Ukraine, which is struggling to face the Russian invasion, continue to arrive from various parts of the world, in various creative forms.

In Japan, train operators in the western Japanese city of Takamatsu began Tuesday running trains in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, as a move to show solidarity and support for Kyiv.

The two-carriage train wrapped in yellow and blue, operated by Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad Co., also carried a moving message of support.

"We support you."

"For Ukrainian rail operators working to protect people's lives."

"We hope for world peace."

Kyoko Imai, a 35-year-old operator employee who came up with the idea to paint the trains in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, was done to show respect for Ukrainian train staff.

"I want to do something to show respect to the (railroad) staff who are working at risk of their lives in Ukraine, as the Russian invasion of the country continues," he was quoted as saying by Kyodo News on April 20.

The operator, also known as Kotoden, in Kagawa Prefecture plans to sell train stickers and donate the entire sales amount to the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan.

It is understood that rail services in the Eastern European country have been operating to move Ukrainian citizens to safety, sending supplies since the invasion began on February 24.
