PASER - Head of the Paser Regency Fire Department (Damkar), Lukman Dharma, asked local residents to increase vigilance to prevent fires during the month of Ramadan.

"The public must be aware of the danger of fires, which usually occur due to negligence during the month of Ramadan," said Lukman in Tanah Grogot, Antara, Wednesday, April 20.

In order to prevent fires from occurring, the Paser Fire Department distributed a circular containing several measures to prevent fires.

These include ensuring that electrical appliances or stoves are turned off when left out of the house and keeping flammable materials away from ignition sources.

"This often happens, forgetting to turn off the stove before leaving the house eventually explodes, especially if not far from the stove there are flammable materials, in the end a fire cannot be avoided," he said.

Lukman also reminded the public not to use plugs in piles which could lead to an electric short circuit.

He also mentioned the importance of residents having the ability to deal with fires, especially on a small scale, to limit the fire area, among others, do not panic, do early extinguishing with a light fire extinguisher or use a mat or burlap sack that has been moistened.

"We recommend that residents have a light fire extinguisher (APAR) as an early treatment in the event of a fire or traditional extinguishers such as burlap sacks," he said.

He said the fire was caused by an electric short circuit so immediately turn off the stove or electricity by lowering the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) switch.

He reminded about the importance of extinguishing a fire with an APAR, do not use water when the electricity has not been cut off or the MCB switch has not gone down.

In addition, residents are asked to report to PLN to cut off the electricity network outside the MCB switch and electricity meter.

"In the event of a fire, the public can contact Paser Fire Department at 054321113," said Lukman.
