2 Regencies In IKN Nusantara Become Chili Development Areas, 50 Hectare Land Area

KALTIM - Paser and North Penajam Paser which are included in the National Capital Region (IKN) of the Archipelago in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) are planted with chili. The two districts became areas for the development of various chili peppers.

"The assistance for the development of the chili area has been carried out in 2021, with activities including facilitation of chili production facilities," said the Head of Horticulture of the Food, Crops and Horticulture Office (DPTPH) of East Kalimantan Province, Erry Eriadi in Samarinda, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, April 19.

The development of this area is intended as a preparation to supply chili needs for residents in IKN and its surroundings, because the development of the area starts from now on, it is hoped that every year the farmers will be more trained in chili cultivation.

This is intended so that in the future the IKN area and its surroundings will be able to meet the needs of food, including the need for chili, so that East Kalimantan does not need to supply chilies from outside the region.

Chili commodity, he said, is often a trigger for inflation because the goods sometimes run out due to minimal harvests and high demand, so that local farmers are expected to be able to produce more chilies.

"There are many horticultural commodities, including various vegetables, fruits, onions, and chilies. Of these commodities, the one that most often triggers inflation is chili, including shallots, so this commodity is also a concern of the central government," he said.

In addition to facilitation of facility assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture for chili development, in the same year and in the same district, the Ministry of Agriculture also developed shallots as an effort to create food self-sufficiency.

"The area for shallot development by the Ministry of Agriculture last year reached 30 ha, namely 30 ha in PPU Regency and 30 ha in Paser Regency," he said.
