Ministry Of Communication And Informatics Provides Media Center At The 2022 GPDRR Event In Bali

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) prepared a media center for the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) on May 23, 2022, in Bali.

The media center that will be set up at the location of the event is an effort to make it easier for the media crew present to cover the news, said the Director-General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Dirjen IKP Kominfo), Usman Kansong, in a written statement received in Jakarta, Monday, April 18th.

The Ministry of Communications and Informatics, said Usman, has opened registration for journalists who wish to cover the GPDRR, both for journalists from within and outside the country, including from local Balinese media.

"What's the purpose? Yes, so that (GPDRR) is conveyed to the community so that the community is well informed, so that the community can participate, for example in disaster mitigation," he said as quoted by Antara.

Usman added that currently, his party is also continuing to coordinate and collaborate with the organizing committee in conducting socialization of the GPDRR. This continues to be done through various media channels, such as social media, outdoor media, online media, and television media.

"Basically, we are trying our best to use all channels to inform the public about the implementation of the GPDRR," he added,

GPDRR, said Usman, will generally show the readiness of Indonesia and Bali in particular to host international conferences amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

"The GPDRR will later be a kind of "warm-up" for Bali to hold an even bigger international meeting, namely the G20 Summit in the same city in November 2022," he said.

Bali was chosen as the host for the 2022 GDPRR because it is considered an area that is ready with infrastructure for international meetings in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that is still sweeping the world.

Various international forums or conferences have been held on the Island of the Gods, such as APEC in 2013 and the most recent was the 144th International Parliamentary Meeting or Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) which was held on 20-24 March 2022.

“We have witnessed many international conferences, international meetings being held in Bali, yes. Later the G20 Summit will also be in Bali. This is all because Bali does have adequate infrastructure for holding international events. That's from the infrastructure side," he said.

Meanwhile, in terms of health, he continued, currently, 50 percent of Bali's population has been injected with advanced or booster vaccines, in addition to stage 1 and 2 vaccinations.

The high vaccination rate in Bali is indeed one of the anticipatory steps due to an international event, in the midst of a pandemic situation that has not yet ended. Although the spread has been very low lately.

"So the protection for the prevention of new clusters is like that. We have calculated that because 50 percent of the Balinese people have been vaccinated with boosters," he said.
