Palu DPRD Asks For The Protection Of Women And Children To Be A Priority

PALU - Head of the Regional Regulations Formation Agency (Perda) of the Palu City DPRD, Mutmainnah Korona, stated that the protection of women and children from sexual violence should be a priority, both by the Palu City Government and by all members of the Palu City DPRD.

She conveyed this considering that currently the protection of women, children, and other vulnerable groups has not become the main concern of the legislative and executive circles in the capital city of Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng).

"Protecting women, children and other vulnerable groups from sexual violence must be a priority. Not only road repairs and other infrastructure improvements are the main priority and concern," she said, Monday, April 18.

Moreover, she continued, the Palu City Government (Pemkot) is currently trying to make Palu City into the category of a child and women-friendly city so that protection for women and children should no longer be underestimated.

According to her, currently, Palu City is still far from being a woman- and child-friendly city. With the ratification of the Draft Law (RUU) on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) into a Law (UU), Palu City can quickly become a friendly area for these groups.

"We are still analyzing which articles in the TPKS Law recommend or encourage local governments to make regulations in order to follow up on the implementation of the TPKS Law in the regions," she said, as quoted by Antara.

After that, he continued, the DPRD together with the Palu City Government will discuss whether the implementation of the TPKS Law in Palu can be followed up by making regulations in the form of regional regulations, mayoral regulations, or the equivalent.

This step is a serious effort to overcome acts of sexual violence that are still often experienced by women and children and to protect vulnerable groups in Palu from such acts.
