JAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion will hold an isbat (determination) session on 1 Syawal 1443 Hijriah/2022 AD on Sunday, May 1 2022, after monitoring (rukyatul) the new moon at 99 points spread across all provinces in Indonesia.

"The Rukyatul hilal will be carried out by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion and the Regency/Municipal Ministry of Religion, in collaboration with the religious courts and Islamic organizations and other agencies," said Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religion Kamaruddin Amin in a written statement quoted by Antara, Monday, April 18.

He explained that the ISBAT trial considered the initial information based on the results of astronomical calculations (hisab) and the results of field confirmation through the monitoring mechanism (rukyatul) of the new moon.

The initial isbat session of Syawal 1443 H will be attended by a number of ambassadors from friendly countries, Commission VIII of the DPR RI, the Supreme Court, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG).

Then also present from Bosscha Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Planetarium, astronomy experts from Islamic organizations, related institutions and agencies, members of the Hijri Calendar Unification Team of the Ministry of Religion and leaders of Islamic community organizations and Islamic boarding schools.

"The trial will be held in a hybrid manner, namely online and offline. Some participants are present at the event location, some are taking part online through a zoom meeting," said Kamaruddin.
