JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata revealed that many business actors have done gratifications or bribed officials to expedite their business processes. This condition causes the business sector to be prone to corrupt practices.

This was conveyed when he inaugurated the management of the Regional Advocacy Committee (KAD) for the Anti-Corruption of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This activity was attended by Alexander Marwata with the Director of Anti-Corruption Business Entities (AKBU) KPK Aminuddin. Also present were the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono, as well as the Chairman of the DIY Chamber of Commerce and Industry GKR Mangkubumi.

"The business sector is a strategic sector as well as prone to corruption. Because business actors are sometimes forced to practice gratification or bribery to launch their business processes," Alexander said in a written statement quoted on Thursday, April 14.

Alexander understands that the money given by the businessmen is not the state budget. However, the gift is still categorized as a criminal act of corruption due to various consequences, including the destruction of the business competition climate.

"This act is prohibited because it is detrimental to the principle of justice, violates the code of ethics and criminal law, which in the end destroys the climate of fair business competition," he stressed.

On that occasion, Alexander detailed that the number of private parties involved in corruption cases reached 356 people. This figure is the highest since 2004-2021.

Meanwhile, the most handled cases were bribery with a total of 802 cases and 263 of them related to the procurement of goods and services.

This condition led the KPK to establish the Directorate of Anti-Corruption for Business Entities (AKBU) under the Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring. One of its flagship programs is forming KAD management to strengthen corruption prevention in the business sector in order to create a business climate with integrity.

Currently, there are 22 KAD in all regions of Indonesia that have been legalized. "It is hoped that KAD can become a forum for dialogue in discussing efforts to restore a clean and corruption-free business climate, and be able to describe the problems faced by business actors and local governments," said Alexander.

"Congratulations and enthusiasm for work. The management and members of the Anti-Corruption KAD DIY, we hope to be able to carry out concrete work programs in preventing corruption, especially in the business sector," he concluded.
