JAKARTA - A fire broke out in two houses located on Jalan Pule 2, RT 01/10, Al-Ikhlas Mosque, Cijantung Village, Pasar Rebo District, on Wednesday, April 13, evening. Residents reported the fire incident to the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. at around 20.39 WIB.

According to eyewitness accounts of the incident to Gulkarmat officers, the source of the fire initially emerged from the kitchen of one resident's house, then grew bigger.

"The fire grew and spread to other buildings from the kitchen of a resident's house," said one witness who did not want to give his name to officers.

Meanwhile, the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-department's Ops Section Head, Gatot Sulaeman said that his party received a report of a fire at the location from a resident.

Gatot said, the source of the fire came from one of the residents' houses that caught fire. The owners of the two houses that were engulfed by the red rooster are Robi (54) and Nurul (35).

"Residents saw the fire growing at the back of the house or the kitchen from Pak Robi's house," said Gatot to reporters, Thursday, April 14.

To extinguish the fire, continued Gatot, his party deployed 11 pump units accompanied by 55 personnel.

"The blackout started at 20.40 WIB and finished at 21.21 WIB. Luckily, there were no casualties," he said.

However, the material loss due to the fire is estimated at Rp. 200 million.

"The area burned is approximately 8 x 10 square meters, now the fire has been extinguished. It is suspected that a fire appeared in the kitchen," he said.
