BANDARLAMPUNG - The manager of the Bakauheni Port in Lampung has prepared as many as 32 ships that are ready to operate ahead of the 2022 Eid homecoming.

"For the readiness of the fleet for the Lebaran 2022 transportation period, 32 vessels are ready to operate," said General Manager (GM) of PT ASDP Bakauheni Branch, Suharto in South Lampung, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, April 13.

He said the 32 ships that are ready to operate during the 2022 Lebaran homecoming period consist of 4 units of express shipping vessels and 28 units of regular shipping vessels.

"Overall there are 70 regular ships, while there are 6 express ships. However, only 4 express ships are operated per day to maintain operational stability," he said.

According to him, to anticipate an increase in demand for crossings via ships during the homecoming flow, his party will be ready to add to the fleet of ships.

"We will first see the number of requests for ships, if they are high, this will be done to reduce the surge in passengers at the port," he said.

He continued, for now, the number of passengers departing or returning at the port is not high enough, where in a day there are 1,000 to 1,500 passengers.

"There has not been a significant increase, for passengers of around 1,000 to 1,500 people, for logistics around 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles. For predictions, it has not been seen but it is estimated that it will increase by 5-10 percent from the number of passengers on a normal day," he also said.

He hopes that amid the decline in COVID-19 cases, ship crossing activities can recover, but by remaining careful, among others, by implementing strict health protocols.
