JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the 17.4 kilometer Brebes-Tegal Ring Road, Brebes Regency, Central Java will be one of the alternative routes to facilitate the homecoming flow of Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijri.
"This road will be one of the alternative routes for Lebaran homecoming so that people's journeys for going home are smoother and reach their destinations faster," said the President when inaugurating the Brebes-Tegal Ring Road, Brebes Regency, Central Java, Wednesday, April 13.
Brebes and Tegal regencies have a road which is the North Coast National Road (Pantura) which is often used by travelers to return to their hometowns ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
The President hopes that with the presence of the Brebes-Tegal Ring Road, connectivity in Brebes and Tegal will be smoother, both for people's daily activities and for going home.
He estimates that the Brebes-Tegal Ring Road will reduce the traffic load in Brebes and Tegal by 48 percent.
"We know that the traffic density in Brebes, Tegal is very high. Since the past, traffic has been very congested, especially ahead of the Eid homecoming, New Year's and other holidays," said the President.
The presence of the Brebes-Tegal Ring Road also complements the structure of the national road network in the Pantura and also completes the road network on the Trans Java Toll Road, he added.
The 17.4 km Brebes-Tegal Ring Road has a width of 7.5 meters for two lanes and is equipped with eight bridges, five each in the Brebes area and three bridges in the Tegal area.
The construction of the Brebes-Tegal Ring Road uses a APBN budget of Rp. 224 billion with a working period from December 2019 to April 2021.
