Responding To Ade Armando's Beating, BNPT: Violence Can Open Doors To Radical Understanding And Terrorism

JAKARTA - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) said that if violence and hatred are considered natural, then it is very dangerous for the nation because it can widen the entrance of radicalism and terrorism.

"BNPT condemns all forms of violence that harm civil society, both individually and in groups in any form," said BNPT head Boy Rafli Amar as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 12.

This was conveyed by the Head of BNPT in response to the violence that occurred during student demonstrations on Monday (11/4). It is known that University of Indonesia (UI) lecturer Ade Armando was beaten to a pulp by a group of non-student protesters in front of the DPR/MPR Parliamentary Complex, Senayan.

It should be, he said, as children of the nation, all parties must join hands and treat each other as well as possible. Therefore, BNPT regrets the violent actions that occurred from some of the protesters when millions of Indonesian Muslims were carrying out the holy Ramadan worship.

BNPT condemns all forms of violence that harm civil society, either individually or in groups in any form, he stressed.

Violence is not the identity of the Indonesian people, so it is feared that violence and hatred are considered normal because they are dangerous for this country, he explained.

"The holy month of Ramadan should be the right time to strengthen our faith and strengthen our unity as children of the nation," he said.
