Intercity Trafficker Arrested By Mojokerto Police

MOJOKERTO - Police officers from Mojokerto City, East Java, managed to arrest a person suspected of being a trafficker operating between cities.

Wakapolresta Mojokerto Kompol Sarwo Waskito said the perpetrator who was arrested had the initials WW, a resident of Tulungagung Regency who operates in the Mojokerto City area.

"The perpetrator was arrested for allegedly selling his wife to serve sex with another man," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 11.

He revealed this case based on a report of an alleged criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in the form of a husband selling his wife to have sex with other people at the Mojokerto City hotel.

"Based on the information, the officers conducted an investigation," he said.

The suspect was arrested in one of the hotels around the city of Mojokerto. "The modus operandi is that the perpetrator sold his wife through social media pages," he said.

Kompol Sarwo said that after the upload on social media succeeded in attracting another man, the perpetrator took his wife to a hotel in Mojokerto City.

"During that time, the perpetrators asked for Rp. 500 thousand for a trip from Tulungagung to Mojokerto after entering the hotel and received Rp. 1.5 million from the man who ordered the perpetrator's wife," he said.

In this case, the officer found evidence in the form of 1 unit of cellphone, 1 unit of car, 1 white mattress, 1 white bed cover, 1 hotel note, cash worth Rp. 1.5 million, 1 contraceptive device that was used, and 2 unused contraceptives.

"The victim in the data is one person, namely B, who lives in Tulungagung," he said.

The suspect has now been detained at the Mojokerto Polresta to undergo further legal proceedings.

The suspect violated Article 2 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 21. Year 2007 concerning Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (PTPPO) with a minimum criminal sentence of 3 years and a maximum of 15 years. "The fine is at least Rp. 120 million, to a maximum of Rp. 600 million," he said.

The perpetrator admitted that he had made transactions like this twice, the first time in Kediri, and the second time in hotels around the city of Mojokerto. "With a case like this, the perpetrator is subject to Article 296 of the Criminal Code," he said.
