Many Stubborn Riders Pass Railroad Crossings In Teteg Malioboro, Transportation Agency Reminds Prohibition Signs

YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Transportation Service emphasized that people who use motorized vehicles are prohibited from crossing the railroad crossing in Teteg Malioboro because it is very dangerous.

“There are already prohibition signs posted. People who use motorized vehicles should understand these signs and obey them," said Head of the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service Agus Arif in Yogyakarta, Antara, Monday, April 11.

In the last few days, there have been many uploads on social media complaining about the behavior of two-wheeled motorized vehicle users crossing train crossings without turning off the vehicle engine.

This condition is suspected by netizens to occur due to no longer being monitored by the police. Previously there was a police post right on the side of the railroad crossing but now it has been removed.

“It doesn't matter whether the motorcycle is 'led' (driven) or not, but it is not allowed to cross the crossing because it is dangerous. You can't go there," he said.

He said that the traffic ban signs had been installed for a long time but there were still many people or motorbike riders crossing the crossing by turning off the engine and pushing it.

Crossing the railroad crossing which is right at the entrance to the east side of Tugu Yogyakarta Station is considered to save time because there is no need to go through Jalan Abu Bakar Ali to get to Jalan Malioboro or Jalan Pasar Kembang.

"In principle, signs have been installed. If they violate, of course there will be enforcement of the rules, in this case a ticket," he said.

He urged motorcyclists to obey the signs that have been installed for safety.

"So far, I don't know whether there has been an accident at the crossing or not. However, we need to understand that crossing the railroad crossing is dangerous," he said.
