April 11 Demo Exactly 5 Years Of The Hard Water Watering Case, Novel Baswedan: The Struggle Against Forgetting

JAKARTA - Former senior investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Novel Baswedan, recalled the case of drinking hard water. Exactly today, 5 years ago, it happened.

"Today 11 April 2022, exactly 5 years ago I was attacked with hard water," said Novel in his Twitter account, @nazaqistsha, Monday 11 April.

The novel said many events passed along with these events. However, the hardest part of all of that is forgetting the causes that he experienced as a KPK investigator studying corruption cases.

"There are a lot of dramas, plays, lies and hypocrisy. A comfortable situation for criminals/corruptors to take refuge in. The toughest resistance is the struggle against forgetting," he said.

Novel emphasized that until now his attitude towards the perpetrators of corruption remains the same. As a person he will continue to fight against forms of injustice.

"If we believe that tyranny/crime will prevail, in fact we have prejudiced against Allah," he stressed.

Along with the 5 years of the watering incident experienced by Novel, the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) took to the streets demanding the rejection of the postponement of the 2024 election, and urged members of the DPR to absorb the people's aspirations from the mass actions that were carried out from March 28 to April 11 in various regions. . The BEM SI action was held today in front of the Jakarta DPR Building.

It is known, the police have named two suspects in the case of drinking hard water experienced by Novel Basedan when he was a KPK investigator. The two suspects are active police officers named Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Ronny Bugis.

The North Jakarta District Court then sentenced Rahmat Kadir Mahulette to two years in prison and the other defendant Ronny Bugis to 1.5 years in prison.

Both were found guilty of violating Article 353 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code, Subsidiary to Article 351 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

The verdicts against Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Ronny Bugis are higher than the one-year prison sentence demanded by the public prosecutor (JPU).

Novel Baswedan experienced the watering incident on April 11, 2017. At that time Novel had just prayed the Fajr prayer at the Al Ihsan Mosque, a place of worship not far from his residence in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

Hot water was splashed on Novel causing prolonged eye injuries. Novel's vision became impaired despite undergoing treatment in Singapore.
