WEST JAVA - The West Java Regional Police (Polda) ensured that all members of the police were not allowed to carry firearms when securing student rallies which were reported to be held on Monday, April 11, in various areas, including in West Java. Pol Ibrahim Tompo said this was an instruction from the West Java Police Chief Inspector General Pol Suntana. The reason, he said, is that the police are now avoiding repression in securing the action. According to him, the operational procedures (SOP) for securing demonstrations are divided into several stages of security level zones, but gunfire is still not allowed.

"We serve, guard and secure Unras persuasively, members will not carry guns," he said. He said that the police will prioritize a persuasive approach to the mass demonstrations in a humane manner to ensure that the action proceeds well and in an orderly manner without any security disturbances.

“We have prepared thousands of personnel with a layered back-up system. This is done by maximizing the intelligence function in measuring potential disturbances, including early detection of the threat of security and security disturbances," he said.
