JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Syarief Hasan, said that online criminals have many modes to ensnare their victims. For this reason, he asked the new OJK commissioners to be more active in providing understanding to the public about the risks of digital financial services.

In its report, OJK stated the total loss of fraudulent investment practices over the last 10 years. The value is no joke, reaching Rp. 117.5 trillion.

"Online criminals will continue to use many modes to lure victims. This is not an easy and temporary job, but a continuous effort to make people aware and alert," said Syarief, in a release quoted by Antara.

Regarding this issue, he is confident that the new OJK commissioners will be able to carry out these duties and mandates in order to oversee a credible and reliable financial industry.

In addition, Syarief Hasan also asked the OJK commissioners to maintain the credibility of the domestic financial industry and must be able to protect the public as service users. Strong supervision and synergies between institutions are believed to be the capital in an effort to eradicate various illegal practices in the financial sector.

"Of course, of the many problems in the financial sector, we hope that the new OJK Board of Commissioners will be able to improve the positive achievements of the previous OJK management and continue to fix various existing deficiencies," he said.

He continued to convey that OJK was still faced with fraudulent investment trends and various types of fraud cases under the guise of investment that harmed many citizens. Therefore, the new OJK commissioners are expected to work more actively and optimally, especially in promoting safe and profitable financial services for the people, as well as being able to encourage economic growth.

As previously reported, Commission IX of the DPR RI on Wednesday (6/4) approved seven members of the OJK Board of Commissioners for the period 2022 – 2027. In the new management, Mahendra Siregar and Mirza Adityaswara have been approved by the DPR RI to become the Chair and Deputy Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners.
