BEM SI Claims To Have Written To The Police About The April 11 Action, Thousands Of Students Are Ready To Take To The Streets

JAKARTA - The All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) claims to have sent a letter notifying the protest action on April 11 to Polda Metro Jaya.

"We wrote a letter yesterday, Friday," said BEM SI Media Coordinator Luthfi Yufrizal to VOI, Saturday, April 9.

With the inclusion of a notification letter as a condition, the demonstration will continue on April 11.

Lutfi said that thousands of students who are members of BEM SI will take to the streets to voice their aspirations. Especially, regarding the clarity of the discourse on postponing the general election (election) and extending the leadership term of President Joko Widodo.

"Our mass estimate is 1,000 (people) from all universities who are members of BEM SI," said Luthfi.

During the demonstration, Luthfi emphasized that BEM SI would follow the existing rules. This means that there is no intention at all to make the demonstration turn into chaos. "We don't act with a chaotic or anarchistic goal," said Luthfi.

Previously, the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes E. Zulpan said that his party had not received a notification letter from any group of actions.

"So far, Polda Metro has not received any requests for activities to express opinions in public by any group," Zulpan said when confirmed, Friday, April 8.

According to the rules, every protest must submit a notification letter to the police. The letter must be submitted no later than 3X24 hours before the action is held.

The goal is that the police can provide security and help the demonstration run peacefully. "But so far, we have not received requests from any group to convey opinions in public," he concluded.
